Rancho Santa Margarita Area Description
According to the US Bureau of Census for the year 2000, Rancho Santa Margarita city has a total population of 47,214 and it's a city in Orange County, California, United States. The city is set upon rolling hills, and most of the homes in Rancho Santa Margarita are maintained by the homeowners associations.
According to the US Census Bureau, there are 13,126 students in Rancho Santa Margarita. Of that, 5,535 or 42.2% are in the elementary school (grades 1-8) 3,358 or 25.6% are in college or graduate school and 17.6% are in High school (grades 9-12) or a total of 2,308 students. While the nursery and pre-school got a percentage of 8.3%. And kindergarten got 6.4% or 839 students. And the highest educational attainment that the population of Rancho Santa Margarita has for its population 25 years and over is for Bachelor's degree for a total of 11.4% or 8,550 graduates. While the total of the high school graduates are 5,896 or 17% of the population for 25 years and over.
While the employment status of the population 16 years and over for Rancho Santa Margarita is 39,027 of that number 24,654 are employed civilian population 16 years and over. And 10,499 are employed female 16 years and over.
Based on the same census, 18,396 are hired private workers, or 74.6% and the number of government workers are 2,936 or a total of 11.9% while 13.1% are self-employed workers or own their business. Of the 24,654 employed civilian population 40.9% are working under management, professional, and related occupations. While 29.2% are working under sales and office occupations.8.5% are working in construction, extraction, and maintenance occupations. Another 7.8 worked under production, transportation, and material moving occupations. And only 0.2% worked under farming, fishing, and forestry occupations.
According to the same census, Rancho Santa Margarita has 19,457 households. Of that number, the income of the household in 1999 are, for those that earn between $50,000 to $74,999 are 3,836 households or 19.7%, Some earn $100,000 to $149,999 or 3,042 households or 15.6%. Only 6.9% of the households earn $200,000 or more or a total of 1,338 households. And 3.5% or 676 households earn less than $10,000. And the median household income in 1999 is 63,507.
Based on the same census, there are 13,197 families in Rancho Santa Margarita. Of the total number of families, only 2.4% or 320 families are earning less than $10,000 268 families or 2% are earning $10,000 to $14,999. Some are earning $35,000 to $49,999 for 1,789 families or 13.6% And only 8.4% or a total of 1,114 families are earning more than $200,000 or more. And the median family income is $76,261.
There are 604 families that fall below the poverty level in Rancho Santa Margarita. Of that number 484 families has children below 18 years. And 218 families has children below 5 years of age.
According to the 2000 census, there are a total of 20,651 housing units.10,884 of that are 1-unit, detached, or 52.7% then there are 2,384 1-unit, attached or 11.5% and for multiple housing units there are 6,980 or 33.8% and there are 393 mobile homes. Most of the structures are built around 1980 to 1989. For a total of 5,395 units or 26.1% Then 297 units or 1.4% are built from 1999 to March 2000, beyond that no housing structures are built.
Of the total housing units built, 19,391 are occupied, and a total of 1,260 units are unoccupied. Out of the 19,391 occupied units, only 10,766 are owner occupied. And 7,280 units are renter occupied.
Of the 10,766 owner occupied units, 8,640 or 80.3% are mortgaged, Out of the 8,640 mortgaged units 39.8% or 4,284 has a monthly cost of $2,000 or more.22.8% or 2,459 has a monthly cost of $1,500 to $1,999. And the median owner monthly cost is $1,992.
And for the renter occupied units, 40.4% or 2,944 has gross rent of $750 to $999.Another 28.9% or 2,101 units has a gross rent of $1,000 to $1,499. Still some has a gross rent of $500 to $749 for a total of 15.4%.Only 58 units has a gross rent of less than $200.Others has gross rent of $300 to $499 for a total of 3% or 221 units. And the monthly median gross rent is $916.
While the value of the owner occupied units are between $300,000 to $499,999 or 46.6% for 5,021 units. Others are between $500,000 to $999,999 or 21.3% for 2,292 units. Only 40 units are valued at less than $50,000 or 0.4% some are valued at $50,000 to $99,999 or 0.1% for 14 units. And only 1.8% or 199 units are valued at $1,000,000 or more. And the median value is $372,400.
